“The Klamath River is a centerpiece of the tribal community, culture and food and a national ecological treasure,” governor Newsom said. “With this agreement, we are closer than ever to restoring access to 400 miles of salmon life, which will be a blessing to the local economy. I am grateful for the partnership between California and Oregon, the Yurok and Karuk tribes and Berkshire Hathaway, which proves that if we work together, we can build a better and more inclusive future for all. It is critical that the agreement requires FERC to remove PacifiCorp from the license agreement and add the states of California and Oregon as well as the Klamath River Renewal Company. It also doubles the emergency fund held by CRRs and contractors. We have never strayed from this commitment and we are delighted that this agreement brings us closer to reality. Proponents of a proposal to remove four dams from the Klamath River are arguing for a new deal under which the states of Oregon and California would take over ownership of PacifiCorp`s facilities. The new agreement aims to address the concerns of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. .
